Gazprom Media’s TV Channels Lead PromaxBDA Global 2020 Awards by Numbers

Gazprom Media won 27 awards, becoming the leading Russian media holding.

The winners of the international Promax Awards Global Excellence 2020 were announced on December 15 on the official Promax website. This is one of the key events in the media industry, which identifies new trends and showcases creative ideas in entertainment marketing.

Gazprom Media Holding’s channels received 27 awards this year, surpassing international media giants in their nominations, including CNN, WarnerMedia, Viacom and The Walt Disney Company. TNT4, TNT, Friday!, Match TV, Match Premier and TV-3 received awards for their marketing and advertising projects. We also surpassed last year’s results, winning three more awards this year. As of today, Gazprom Media has 77 awards from the prestigious PromaxBDA Global competition. This includes the Holding’s victories in 2020.

TNT4 once again became the undisputed leader among Russian TV channels at the Promax Awards, winning 10 titles.

The video promoting films in the “Pravilnoe Kino” (The Right Films) package earned the TV channel one gold, three silver and two bronze awards in six nominations: Best Promo Made by the Channel’s Team,  Best Editing, Best Film Promo, Best Promo of a Special Broadcast Event, Best Marketing Promo and Best Promo of Multiple Programs/Films. The promo for the 35th anniversary of the Police Academy films also received a gold award in the Best Promo of Multiple Programs/Films nomination, as well as a bronze in Best Promo of a Broadcast Lineup. The channel’s other victories include a silver for the promo of the film 127 Hours in the Best Use of Original Music nomination and a bronze for the promo of the Donald Trump Roast in the Best Promo of a Comedy Program nomination.  

TNT4 is the Russian channel that has won the most titles at international marketing awards. In 2020 they collected 25 prizes from various Promax Awards held around the world. It is important to note that this was the first time that the international industry experts who determine the award nominees chose a Russian TV channel. In total, the TNT4 promo team won around 60 statuettes in the almost five years since the channel went on the air, which is a record for all Russian TV channels.

The promos made by Friday!’s team received six statuettes and the channel won two gold awards in this year’s special category, COVID-19, in the nominations Best Editing for the promo Izo-LEO-lyatsiya (Iso-LEO-ation) and Best Brand Promo for the video to the Krutoe Kino (Cool Film) screenings. The Krutoe Kino video also earned a silver award in the nomination Best Promo of a Broadcast Lineup and a bronze in the nomination Best Marketing Promo. The online game Oryol i Reshka. Ivleeva vs. Bednyakov (Heads or Tails. Ivleeva vs. Bednyakov) and the promo announcing a Jackie Chan movie won bronze awards in the nominations Digital Innovations: Platforms and Best Sound Design, respectively. 
The promo “Letnaya simfoniya polkovnika Yakovleva” (“Colonel Yakovlev’s summer symphony”) from the TV series Politseysky s Rublyovki (The Policeman from Rublyovka) earned a silver award in the Best Promo of a Comedy Program nomination. Another silver award, in the Best Marketing Campaign in Social Networks, went to TNT for its joint project between the talent show Tantsy (Dances) and TikTok. This project helped the channel attract young viewers to the most popular televised dance show in the country. TNT also received two awards in the nominations Best Interactive Promo—a silver for Tantsy in VR mode and a bronze for the idea to create a family chat whose messages appeared in new episodes of the SASHATANYA series.
Match TV and Match Premier
Five of the channel’s promos won awards in four nominations. The Sports Music Use nomination featured two of the channel’s videos—a video dedicated to the Formula 1 Russian Grand Prix in Sochi, which won gold, and a video timed to the start of the new UEFA Champions League season, which took silver. Another gold award went to the video announcing the matches of the Tinkoff Russian Premier League in the nomination Best Editing of a Sports Event. A silver award was given to an image video about the new Formula 1 season on Match TV in the Something for Nothing nomination. The world’s leading experts also gave high marks to Match TV’s rebranding efforts, awarding the channel a silver in the Best Rebranding nomination.
The channel won two gold awards for its video U prikluchenii net granits (Adventures have no limits) in the nominations Best Editing and Best Promo of a Broadcast Lineup.

The PromaxBDA Awards are the most prestigious awards in television marketing and design. They are given to the most innovative and creative projects, and more than 10,000 companies and experts from around the world compete for the prizes. The foreign winners at PromaxBDA 2020 included the media giants CNN, FOX, HBO, Showtime, ESPN, NBC, Sony Pictures Television, and others.
