Moscow, Russia - JSC Gazprom media, the leading diversified media holding in Russia and Eastern Europe, reports the growth of the Internet audience interest for live broadcasting of the Mariinsky Theatre. Since November 2015 with the help of the technological platform Rutube more than 20 online broadcasts of various performances, including world premieres, have been held. In less than six months, the number of "live broadcasts" views on the Internet has increased six-fold.

Russia's largest video service Rutube, a part of the Gazprom media, has become the official technical partner for the Internet broadcast of the State Academic Mariinsky Theatre. The project started in October 2015 as part of an agreement on strategic cooperation between Gazprom media and the Mariinsky Theatre.

The cooperation is aimed at expanding the number of theater audience in Russia and abroad, including the attraction of youth and children's Internet audience. Therefore, more than half of the "live" concerts on the Internet are focused on the children's audience. In 2016, an important part of the «live» program will be performances for children, including a series of Sergei Prokofiev's works - "Peter and the Wolf", where the readers will be well-known actors.

"The Mariinsky Theatre was the pioneer of Internet broadcasts of performances and concerts, having made the first turn-on as long ago as in 1999, and in 2010 began to hold them on a permanent basis within its own Internet project mariinsky.tv. New technological step was taken in 2015 with the moving of the project to the platform Rutube", - was noted in the press-service of the Mariinsky Theatre.

"We provide connoisseurs of classical art with online access to famous concerts of the oldest musical theater in the country. I hope that the opportunity to see the best productions broadcast on the popular Rutube Russian Internet site will promote cultural values and traditions among the youth of the Internet audience. The development of the English-language section of the Mariinsky Theatre, which can be used by the loyal viewers of the Mariinsky Theatre all over the world, is in our plans", - said Vadim Fedotov, the head of digital sub-holding Gazprom media technology.

Apart from Internet broadcasts, a cooperation agreement provides the filming of performances in 4K format and organization of live broadcasts in cinemas, the creation of content based on media library of the Mariinsky Theatre, the distribution of the different types of rights on international markets. The channel Match TV, the film company Central Partnership, the video hosting Rutube and the radio station Children's Radio will be involved in the implementation of the cooperation program.

At the moment, a large amount of unique video content - concerts, theater and ballet performances based on Russian classical music, which have been collected over the past decade by the Mariinsky Theatre, is available on the official channel of the theater on Rutube: http://rutube.ru/feeds/Mariinsky/.
