Media artists from different countries will exhibit their work and host master classes, discussions and lectures as part of the Pixels Fest festival. The television channel 2x2 is organising the event in the Urals capital from March 7 to 15.

The goal of the Pixels Fest international festival is to expand the scope of digital art in the urban environment and facilitate dialogue with the international art community. The platform will give artists an opportunity to connect to the residents of the megapolis through video art, with the urban space itself becoming a medium for communication.

The media facade of the Boris Yeltsin Presidential Center in Yekaterinburg, which spans 2,200 square meters, will showcase the works chosen through an open contest among artists. The contest has been ongoing since October 2019. Its participants were invited to reflect on the theme of a utopian technological future. The contest works had to consider the unique features of the Yeltsin Center architecture on an artistic and conceptual level, and also correspond to the Pixels Fest 2020 theme - “Digital Utopias”. An international jury, which consisted of respected arts world representatives, chose 15 finalists from 130 submissions by artists from 35 countries.

In addition to the contest works displayed on the media facade, Pixels Fest guests can enjoy an international program: the most relevant and innovative video art and animation works, educational and discussion programs, an international exhibition in the VR-format, and workshops from the Skillbox online university. Admission to all festival events is free, but some events need to be registered for.

A detailed programme, as well as information about artists and shows, is available on the festival’s website.
