Obychnaya Zhenshina to Be Released on Viaplay in Scandinavia

The Swedish media holding Nordic Entertainment Group (NENT) has announced the purchase of rights to show the Russian TV show Obychnaya Zhenshina (An Ordinary Woman).

This drama from 1-2-3 Production and Look Film stars Anna Mikhalkova, Evgeny Grishkovets, Alexandra Bortich and Tatiana Dogileva, and it tells the story of a middle-aged Muscovite woman who runs a brothel in secret from her husband and children.

The independent UK-based TV content distributor Cineflix Rights, which holds the rights to broadcast the series overseas, signed the agreement. The series will be shown in northern Europe on Viaplay, a quickly growing VoD service that launched in 2018. This service is now used by more than 3 million people in Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland, and there are plans to make Viaplay available to viewers in the Baltic states and Poland next year.

Obychnaya Zhenshina is the first Russian project to be offered on Viaplay. Notably, NENT acquired the rights to all seasons, including the new one, which is currently in production. The PREMIER video service will be the first to show the second season of the series in Russia in December 2020.
