Gogol. Strashnaya Mest (Gogol. The Terrible Revenge) earned 56.1 million rubles on its first day in the theatres, marking the best ever premiere among Russian films on weekdays and non-holiday days in the entire history of record keeping by the unified federal automated information system. According to the system, the film Gogol. Strashnaya Mest became the top earner of the entire Gogol trilogy at the box office. As such, the first film Gogol. Nachalo (Gogol. The Beginning) set a record for the best summer release in Russia a year ago, collecting 47.5 million rubles on the first day of its release, while its sequel Gogol. Viy collected 38.9 million rubles. If the ticket sales for the opening day of all trilogy parts are added up, it emerges that Gogol holds the record for first day earnings at the box office among all Russian film franchises.

Next year, TV-3 will show Gogol as a film series made up of eight episodes. In the future, the authors of the project plan to create a whole fantasy cinema universe whose main characters will be classic Russian writers.
