Yandex and Google have published their traditional studies based on the results of 2019 about the most popular searches Russians made in their search engines. Among the Top 10 searched TV series, along with the Game of Thrones and HBO’s Chernobyl, there were five projects from Gazprom-Media Holding - the TV series Zhuki (Beetles), Tolya Robot (Tolya is a Robot), Polyarnyy (Polar Circle, on TNT), IP Pirogova (on Super TV channel), and Sultan Moego Serdtsa (Sultan of my Heart, made by KIT Film Studio).
In this way, Gazprom-Media Holding has become a leader among Russian media holdings in terms of the number of projects represented in the Yandex and Google rankings.
Among the Top 10 in both services were the projects IP Pirogov from Super TV channel, which won a TEFI award in 2019, as well as the series Sultan Moego Serdtsa, which KIT Film Studio made for Channel ONe together with the Turkish film company Global Connection International Media.
Zhuki finished the year as the most popular Russian TV series and was among the Top 3 leaders on the Yandex search. The 16-episode series aired on TNT channel on September 2, 2019. The second season’s release is scheduled for autumn 2020.
Another TNT project, the series Polyarnyy, also made it into the Top 10 TV shows in Yandex. It became the most popular television series with a 19.1% share among an audience aged 14-44.
Also among the Top 10 was the TNT series Tolya Robot. The series made waves when it premiered in May 2019, and its second season is scheduled to air next spring.
Among Yandex’s leaders in the film category were the projects T-34 and John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum, which were distributed by Central Partnership film company.
The sports events that made it into Yandex’s Top 10 included the matches of the Russian Football League and the Champions League, which aired on Match TV. The qualifying match between Russia and Belgium for the 2020 UEFA European Football Championship also made it into the Top 10 of sports broadcasts - it was broadcast live on Match Premier TV.
