The Don State Technical University successfully hosted Magika, the second festival of animation and game design, from 24-29 September. The festival was held in the Raduga sports and recreation complex in the Divnomorskoe village of Krasnodar krai. The university’s faculty of media communications and multimedia technologies organised the festival together with the Magika animation technopark. Gazprom-Media Holding, Soyuzmultfilm, UE Community Lead in CIS Epic Games, Higher School of Economics, IThab College, TrendUp exchange trading school and China News Cartoon Society served as the festival’s partners.
The technical director of Gazprom-Media Holding’s animation studio, Evgeny Chebotar, and the studio’s production designer, Georgy Podshibyakin, were the festival’s speakers. The participation of these studio professionals in the Magika festival is an example of the continued collaboration between Gazprom-Media Holding and the Don State Technical University.
Evgeny Chebotar spoke to students about the animation pipeline and trends in modern animation. According to him, analysing the organisation of the team’s work helps students to evaluate the prospects of their own projects.
Student teams developed projects at the festival with the help of transmedia storytelling technology. The projects covered the following topics: digital literacy, media literacy, environmental literacy, financial literacy, Live management.
