Going Vertical becomes highest-grossing Russian film in China

The blockbuster Dvizhenie Vverh (Going Vertical), made by Nikita Mikhalkov’s TRITE Studio, Russia 1 TV channel and Central Partnership film company (part of Gazprom-Media Holding), has collected 76.4 million yuan (more than 700.4 million rubles) in Chinese cinemas as of today. The film was released in Chinese cinemas on June 13 on 10,000 screens.

In the 14 days since its release, Going Vertical has become the highest-grossing Russian film ever shown in China. It surpassed earlier high-grossing Russian films, such as Snow Queen 3 (74.2 million yuan), Stalingrad (71.9 million yuan) and I Am Dragon (60 million yuan).

Going Vertical also became the second highest-grossing foreign feature film about sports at the Chinese box office, surpassing such films as Creed II starring Sylvester Stallone, Moneyball starring Brad Pitt, Battle of the Sexes with Emma Stone, and others.

The Russian film quickly won the attention of Chinese moviegoers, while good reviews of the film on popular resources ensured packed auditoriums. Going Vertical continues to be shown in Chinese cinemas today.
