Central Partnership Was the Leading Film Distributer in 2020

The consulting firm Estimate Company has tallied up the results of the film distribution market in Russia for 2020 and found that Central Partnership (part of Gazprom Media Holding through GPM KIT) topped the rating of the largest film distributors, overtaking even leading foreign film distributors in terms of total box office revenues. Thus, a domestic company became the leader in the film distribution market.

The study used data from the Russian Cinema Fund’s Analytics to calculate the rating. The data was from box office revenues that film distributors release in Russian movie theaters (box office indicators are given for the period from January 1 to December 31, 2020).

Based on these calculations, Central Partnership finished in first place. Films that were distributed by Central Partnership collected 6.5 billion rubles in movie theaters. Notably, most of these sums came from Russian films. In total, Central Partnership released 18 films in movie theaters in 2020, of which 12 were domestic.

The biggest movie of the year in Russia in 2020 was Kholop (The Peasant), which Central Partnership released in movie theaters in late 2019. The film collected 2.8 billion rubles at the box office from January 1 to December 31, 2020, making Kholop the highest grossing Russian film in the history of Russian film distribution.

In addition to Kholop, the Top 5 highest grossing films released by Central Partnership in 2020 also included Neposredstvenno Kakha (544.3 million rubles), (Ne)idealniy Muzhchina ([Not] an Ideal Man, 520.1 million rubles), Otel Belgrade (Hotel Belgrade, 437.3 million rubles) and Streltsov (354.4 million rubles).

Central Partnership also released the films The Silver Skates and Ogon (No Escapes) in movie theaters in December, and their box office revenues are still increasing. According to the Russian Cinema Fund’s Analytics, No Escapes collected 660 million rubles at the box office as of January 15, while The Silver Skates got 455 million rubles.
