The Russian Santa Claus, Ded Moroz, is celebrating his birthday on November 18. This is the day when cold weather traditionally sets in at his home estate in Veliky Ustyug and the winter truly begins!
In recent years, the country’s official Ded Moroz has celebrated his birthday while in the midst of the charity initiative Puteshestvie Deda Moroza s NTV (The Journey of Santa Claus with NTV). As part of this initiative Ded Moroz travels to Russian cities to bring holiday cheer and make the dreams of children and adults who are in hospitals or social institutions, or come from low-income or large families, come true. His main goal is to make all people in the country believe in miracles and the power of good.
This year, the fairytale folk who are once again gathering in Ded Moroz’s land from all corners of Russia are expected to enjoy a real animation party. The holiday guests will meet beloved characters from fairy tales and cartoons, take part in a “Fairytale Run”, watch the play Priklucheniya Novogodnikh Igrushek (Adventures of New Year’s Toys) and the show S Dnem Rozhdeniya, Dedushka Moroz! (Happy Birthday, Ded Moroz!), attend the opening of MultMoroz animation studio and take part in the lighting ceremony of Russia’s main holiday tree.
