The CEO of Gazprom-Media Holding, Aleksandr Zharov, presented Chinese military drama The Nanjing Photographer to an audience in Moscow, dedicated to the tragic events of the Nanjing Massacre of 1937. The screening ceremony was attended by representatives of Russian and Chinese official circles, as well as cultural figures.

In his speech, Aleksandr Zharov emphasized the symbolic significance of the parallel release of the film in Russia and the Russian film Gruppa krovi [Blood Type] in China. Both projects are timed for the 80th anniversary of the victory in World War II and are aimed at preserving historical memory of crimes against humanity.

«These films reveal the terrible truth of wartime, documenting the horrifying crimes of destructive ideologies. Their almost simultaneous premieres are a symbol of friendship between the peoples of Russia and China, and the result of our joint work with Chinese partners to preserve historical memory».

The presentation of the film also included participation of Vladimir Oschepkov, Deputy Director of the First Asia Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Wang Xiaozhan, Deputy Secretary General of the Union of Chinese Entrepreneurs in Russia, film and television actor, and Feiya Zou, a native of Nanjing, theater and film actress, blogger, and participant in Gazprom-Media Holding projects.

The release of The Nanjing Photographer in Russia is scheduled for September 11, just a month and a half after its premiere in China, which is significantly shorter than usual timelines. The film has already grossed over $400 million in the Chinese box office, becoming one of the highest-grossing projects of the year.

The film tells the story of a local postman, A Chang, who risks his life in Japanese-occupied Nanjing to save civilians and publicize evidence of war crimes. The film was based on true events and created by leading Chinese studios China Film Group Corporation (CFGC), Super Lion Culture Communication, and Yuuya Media.

The distributor of the project in Russia is the Central Partnership company (part of Gazprom-Media Holding).
