The premiere of the action-packed thriller The Courier was held in Cinema Moscow on March 16. The world premiere of the film took place at Sundance Film Festival, with the White Nights distributor of auteur films (part of GPM KIT) to release the film in Russian movie theaters on March 18.
The Courier is based on the real story of British businessman Greville Wynn (Benedict Cumberbatch), who was recruited by MI6 to work in the Soviet Union. There, he got in touch with the Main Intelligence Directorate Colonel Penkovsky (Merab Ninidze) to help defuse the Cuban Missile Crisis and prevent a full-out nuclear conflict. In time, their cooperation turned into friendship, blurring the lines between “us” and “them.”
