Film Rusalka. Ozero Myortvyh collects more than $4.5 million at international box office

The mystical horror film Rusalka. Ozero Myortvyh (Mermaid. Lake of the Dead), which was directed by Svyatoslav Podgaevsky and produced by KIT Film Studio (included in Gazprom-Media Holding as part of GPM KIT) and QS Films, collected more than $4.5 million at the international box office.

The film already got screen time in the cinemas of Mexico, Brazil and Colombia, where it held leading positions at the box office in the first week. In Colombia, the film topped the box office in its debut weekend and even surpassed Second Act with Jennifer Lopez in the lead role and M. Night Shyamalan’s Glass.

The film’s earnings in Asia and Latin America exceeded expectations. The film was particularly successful in Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Ecuador, Malaysia and Vietnam.

In the USA, Rusalka. Ozero Myortvyh was released in February 2019 on digital media platforms and immediately made it into the Redbox - a prestigious network for the automated sale of DVD and Blu-Ray discs across the country.

The plot of Rusalka. Ozero Myortvyh is based on Slavic mythology. It was believed in Old Russia that unmarried girls who drowned become mermaids - evil demons who resided in rivers and lakes. A chance meeting with a strange girl by a forest lake dramatically changes the life of the main character Roma.

The film company Central Partnership, which is part of Gazprom-Media, is managing the international sales of the film. So far, the rights to Rusalka. Ozero Myortvyh have been sold to 154 countries.

The rights to the film were previously acquired by Splendid (German-speaking countries), Shout! Studios (North America), First International Productions (French-speaking countries), BF Distribution (Latin American countries), Suraya (Malaysia), Moviecloud (Taiwan), Purple Plan (Vietnam) and others.
