Batya is a film about Max, who grew up in the early 1990s under the watchful eye of a traditional Soviet father. As an adult, he yearns to understand why his father was the way that he was, so he takes his family back to the house where he grew up, unearthing childhood memories.
The filmmakers wanted to reveal the emotions of people who grew up in the 1990s and how the archetypal image of a batya shaped the generation of millennials raising children of their own today.
