Dmitry Chernyshenko was born in Saratov on 20 September 1968. He graduated from the Stankin Moscow State University of Technology with a degree in Systems Engineering. In 1989, he established Informatics Marketing Service, one of the first computer graphics studios in Russia. In 1993, Mr Chernyshenko became the co-founder of Media Arts, one of the biggest communication groups specializing in advertising and sports marketing in Russia, which he managed for 12 years.

From 2005 to 2014 Dmitry Chernyshenko managed the project for the preparation and staging of Sochi 2014 Olympic Winter Games. From 2005 to 2007 he led a successful bidding campaign to host the Olympic Winter Games in Russia. From 2007 to 2014 Dmitry Chernyshenko managed the preparation and staging the Games as President of the Sochi 2014 Organizing Committee.

The Olympic Games in Sochi have been declared a success. On many parameters, the Games in Sochi became the record and arose the unprecedented interest of spectators and mass media: the audience of the Games reached 3,5 billion people. In the process of organizing the Games in Sochi modern instruments of management were applied and innovative decisions on security were implemented. More than 7 thousand projects were accomplished and 50 information and technological systems were integrated during the preparation.

Since 2007, Dmitry Chernyshenko has been a member of the Council on the development of physical culture and sport under the President of the Russian Federation.

From 2015 to 2020 Dmitry Chernyshenko was the General Director and Chief Executive Officer of Gazprom-Media, the biggest media group in Russia and Western Europe. Under the leadership of Dmitry Chernyshenko, the company strengthened its position as the leading player on the Russian media market and demonstrated revenue and operating profit growth.

Chernyshenko significantly expanded the business: currently, 8100 employees work in the company, and the holding includes 144 companies, among which there are 9 federal TV channels, 12 sport TV channels, 17 thematic channels, 10 radio stations.

Chernyshenko encouraged the expansion of in-house video production. Many of Gazprom-Media’s original TV shows have been acquired by international broadcasters and online platforms.

Gazprom-Media has become the national leader in the distribution of Russian films (with the box office of 6 billion rubles and market share of 38% in 2019) and has confirmed its reputation as the national distributor on international markets.

Dmitry Chernyshenko initiated Gazprom-Media’s digital transformation that included new digital products development. Advertisers have access to a wide range of digital products including interactive, mobile advertising in a one-stop format.

The launch of digital video platform Premier, which has 1,6 million subscribers, is among the successful projects.

In 2019 Gazprom-Media created the new center of technological competences which provided solutions for digital platforms. Also, a new venture in mobile advertising was established.

From 2014 to 2020 Dmitry Chernyshenko was the President and Chairman of the Board of Continental Hockey League (KHL). Under his leadership, KHL ahead of time accomplished its three-year strategy aimed at the league financial recovery. The unified league's strategy for the development of KHL as well as Youth League and Woman League has been formed and is being successfully fulfilled. The strategy covers the period till 2023 and is aimed at increasing the sport level of KHL, decreasing the share of state financing, strengthening of the clubs commercial potential.

Throughout the career, Dmitry Chernyshenko has received multiple Russian and international awards, among which are Order for the Services to the Fatherland II Class, Order of Friendship, Order of Honor, Orders of St. Sergey Radonezhsky II and III Class, Golden Olympic Order.

Two years running Dmitry Chernyshenko has been in the list of Variety’s 500 most influential people in the global media industry.
